2015 UA Western Canada
Apprentice Competition

In April 2015, UA Local 170 hosted the UA Western Canada Regional Apprentice Competition at the Piping Industry College of British Columbia in Delta, BC.  Local 516 apprentice,
Chris H. of Hytek Mechanical beat out his competitors to claim first place in the HVAC/R category.

In a competition very similar to Skills Canada, Chris had to install and commission a low-temp refrigeration system, as well as complete a troubleshooting task.  Chris impressed everyone as he demonstrated skills and trade knowledge beyond that of the typical apprentice who is about to enter his second year on the tools.  It was a great example of the kind of professionalism, skill, and dedication that we should all strive for.

June 9th-13th will see Chris competing against the best UA HVAC/R apprentices from across Canada in Toronto, Ontario for the privilege of representing Canada at the UA International Apprentice Competition in Ann Arbor, Michigan in August.

Good luck Chris!  Well done!
