Skills Canada Competitions

In April 2015, at Skills BC, UA Local 516 apprentice Anthony De Vita of CT Control Temp won the Gold medal as he demonstrated his skills in service and troubleshooting procedures.  Anthony then went on to Saskatoon in May to compete in the 2-day Skills Canada competition where he was up against 9 other apprentices from across Canada.  During the competition, Anthony was tasked with the installation and commissioning of a low-temp refrigeration system as well as performing troubleshooting procedures.

When the dust settled, Anthony was called to the podium again to receive another Gold medal.  These victories didn't come without a lot of effort on Anthony's part.  On numerous occasions, Anthony worked with Local 516's Director of Training, Matt Buss, on weekends to help prepare him for the challenges he would face during the competitions.

Well done Anthony!  You should be very proud of your achievements.  We certainly are!

Whatever their faults, unions have been the only powerful and effective voice working people have ever had in the history of this country.
