Why Union?

We’ve reserved this page for stories from our members to show examples of the real, yet extraordinary, benefits of belonging to UA Local 516.  While unions exist to ensure fair wages, safety, security, health benefits and retirement savings for their members, life still happens, and when we really need it the most, we can look to our union brothers and sisters for support.

If you have a personal story you'd like to share, contact the Union Office.

Just before Christmas 2016, the 2 year old daughter of one of our members, Scott, was admitted to Children's Hospital.  With another child on the way, Scott kept working through this unimaginable situation.  He reached out to the Local 516 office and his union responded.

Scott emailed the Local expressing his gratitude and offering an update on his daughter's condition.  If you click on the image, you will find that though it will still be a long road, Scott and family are grateful for the support of his UA 516 brothers and sisters.

In November 2014, one of our members, Mark, became the father of a 15-week premature baby boy.  In December 2015, the UA 516 office received an email from Mark recounting the events of the preceding year and offering a sincere thank-you to the membership of the union.

Whatever their faults, unions have been the only powerful and effective voice working people have ever had in the history of this country.
