Social Events

Being a member of Local 516 means you're a member of a much larger family than you may realize.  The size of our beautiful province presents a challenge to connecting with your sisters and brothers of UA Local 516.  The members of the Social Committee recognize this challenge and have volunteered to spearhead social events across the province to not only have a great time, but build a sense of community among the membership.  No matter where you are in the province, the Social Committee wants to hear from you so that they can plan events that you will enjoy.

Family Picnic - Saturday, August 26, 2017

Drop in and join us at Blue Mountain Park in Coquitlam on August 26th between 10am and 4pm.  We'll provide the games, hot dogs, and bring your picnic gear!  Blue Mountain park has a lot to offer: shaded picnic area, open fields, playground, toddler wading pool, water spray park, etc.  It's going to be a great time!

We'd appreciate anyone who wants to RSVP (it'll help us estimate how much food/water we need) and/or volunteer.  Contact Melanie at the union office.

Burger & Beer Night - May 13, 2017

The first event organized was a Burger & Beer night benefitting the Surrey Food Bank.  On May 13th, about 30 people got together at Rusty's Neighbourhood Pub in Cloverdale, BC to enjoy food, drinks, and games, all while raising some money for the Surrey Food Bank.  The donations raised are in addition to the annual amount that UA 516 regularly donates to this local cause.

Upcoming Events

The Social Committee is currently planning a possible bowling night for Fall 2017.  Stay tuned for details.

Whether you're in the interior, lower mainland, or on the island, if you have an idea for an event in your area, please take a few moments to email the Social Committee.  Suggestions are always welcome!

Whatever their faults, unions have been the only powerful and effective voice working people have ever had in the history of this country.
