Surrey Food Bank

Believing that it is a part of the duties of any organization to help those in need, UA Local 516 has long supported the Surrey Food Bank in their endeavour to help provide vital resources to individuals and families who have nowhere else to turn in their time of need.

Over the years, many members of UA Local 516 have donated their time and skills to maintain and improve the building and fixtures of the Surrey Food Bank.

Updates:

September 2015

After many years of volunteering for the Surrey Food Bank, Al Levert has decided to take a break from the regular maintenance and major projects he has spent so much of his free time on.  Al has been and continues to be a great representative for how UA Local 516 members give back to their communities.  We all enjoy fair wages and great benefits as a part of membership in our local, and we seek to give back to others not because it promotes our cause and beliefs, but because it’s the right thing to do.

If you have some free time, or know a member or contractor that would like to help out the Surrey Food Bank on a regular or temporary basis, please contact either the UA Local 516 office at 604.882.8212 or the Surrey Food Bank at 604.581.5443.

July 2015

Long-time members of UA Local 516 (and now retirees), Al Levert and Ken Auton, went to work installing a new 3.5 ton York Package unit on the rooftop of the Surrey Food Bank.  First they had to remove what might have been the original rooftop unit from when the building was constructed back in the 1970's.

Toby Knowles of Piedmont Sheet Metal provided two of his best workers, Noah and Tim, to help Al and Ken remove the old unit and install the new one supplied from Refrigerative Supply.

Kevin Johnson of J.K. Crane Truck donated his services and time to remove the old unit from the rooftop and raise the new unit so that the guys could install it.  J.K. Crane Truck & Delivery Service is based in Abbotsford, BC and can be reached at (604)309-7900.

Whatever their faults, unions have been the only powerful and effective voice working people have ever had in the history of this country.
